Yesterday, you all sent in a few questions.
First, you shouldn’t need HCQ. Please get the vaccine and two weeks after the second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, you’re good to do…anywhere and maskless. So, if you are fully-vaccinated, you should dump your masks and go back to living your life as before.
Regarding need for a booster, I don’t think many people will need one. That issue is being studied extensively by every vaccine company and by several academic labs. They are all looking for correlates of protection - an immune response that protects against infection.
These labs/companies are studying pts who got the vaccine and also got breakthrough Covid infections and everyone else who didn’t. They are looking at antibody levels and trying to determine what level of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 are protective. Presumably, this issue will be settled in the next few months. So, next fall or winter, we should be able to get a blood test and determine who needs a booster and who doesn’t.
