Meet in the Middle? No, Meet in the Middle of the End

Months ago, I suggested, based on data on HCQ treated Covid pts, that perhaps, we were at the end of the beginning.

Those data and other were ignored and/or ridiculed, for reasons I won’t ever understand. Things have become so absurd that one of the hospitals in which we practice in banned HCQ – not completely, only for use in Covid pts.

The absurdity of this ban is difficult, if not impossible, to overstate. Yes, this one hospital banned HCQ for use in Covid pts for Covid. If a Covid pt had lupus and was on HCQ, I could prescribe HCQ. If a Covid pt had rheumatoid arthritis and was on HCQ, I could prescribe HCQ. Funny thing, that hasn’t ever happened. I have not yet treated or read about a lupus or rheumatoid arthritis pt on HCQ chronically and admitted for Covid.

And, oh yeah, if you’re related to someone, then I can use HCQ. Yes, the HCQ ban was lifted for two very sick Covid pts with connections and only those two pts. The ethics behind this decision to lift the ban for only two pts…well, they don’t exist, but hey, this is Jersey, and we don’t need things like ethics, cause well, we were born to run.

Moving on –

The hell with end of the beginning, the hell with meeting in the middle of Kansas. Bruce isn't the only nor necessarily the best Jersey poet. Mr. Whitman from Camden wasn't too shabby.

We are Americans on an Open Road and we are in the Middle of the End of this thing.

All is starting to seem beautiful again to me.

Look, please look at the mapsGreen is good; Red is bad. Look how we are doing and how rapidly we are doing it. Hand wringing is going on. Why is Covid going away so quickly when we have only vaccinated 1/6 of the population? First, who cares? Second, what makes you think that you were correct to predict that we needed >90% vaccination to stop the pandemic? That stat doesn’t even make sense, btw, from a mathematic viewpoint.

So, start getting out the barbies, buy some charcoal or gas, even think about getting one of those weird, little beer kegs for adults who can't lift a real keg anymore, and then plan for a party, a very big, very long party. I hate IPAs, so if you're inviting me, Budweiser is perfect.

We will party long and hard, in part, because we can and, in part, to celebrate.

We will not celebrate victory over Covid. No, Covid is something we need to get past and forget.

We, instead, will raise a glass to Lazar Wolk and to Tevye.

We will drink to l'chaim.
