how long do you think the quarantine should remain in order to help fight the coronavirus? i hear things about it mutating and coming back as well in fall or winter. Will be Hurd immunity based on having had a version of this be enough to offer protection from the disease (or at least the break in the curve to flatten it?)

Herd immunity will definitely help. I doubt recurrence happens, if it does, it is very, very rare, since your immune system is what cured you in the first place.
Trials have been started in NYC using serum or blood from recovered pts to treat very ill COVID pts.
14 days is plenty to quarantine someone.
